Gene Filbert, 79, of Bushnell passed away at 11:20 p.m. Friday, March 17, 2017 at Wesley Village Healthcare Center in Macomb surrounded by his family.
He was born on September 9, 1937 in Bushnell to Clayton and Margaret Beghtol Filbert. He married Karen Derry on February 18, 1960. She preceded him in death on March 3, 2014.
He was also preceded in death by his parents; one daughter, Lisa Johnson and one brother, Ronald Filbert.
Gene is survived by one son, Mike Filbert of Bushnell; one daughter, Pam (Steve) Hensley of Macomb; four grandchildren, Tyler Hensley of Palatine, Lauren Hensley of Macomb, Lexi (Ben) Bruce of St. Louis, Missouri and Kyle Johnson of Macomb; one great-grandson, Landon Hensley of Palatine and many nieces and nephews.
He was a graduate of Bushnell-Prairie City High School. He started farming in the late 60's and continued until the early 90's. Following his retirement he worked for several area implement dealerships and most recently for Jenks Family Farms.
He was a member of the Jerusalem United Methodist Church.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, March 21, 2017 at the Clugston-Tibbitts Funeral Home in Macomb with Reverend Delbert Pancake officiating. Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday, March 20, 2017 at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Bushnell Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to the Jerusalem United Methodist Church or the MDH Nursing Scholarship.
