Dennis Ray Crowe, 73 of Macomb, IL passed away at 5:00am Wednesday March 8, 2017 peacefully at home with his wife and daughters near his side. He was born to Dennis Dean Crowe and Jean Hickman Crowe on July 6, 1943 in Paoli, Indiana.
Dennis met and married the love of his life Lynne Gilmore in Indiana in the summer of 1963. After a couple of years exploring life in love with each other they decided to become a family and had Kathleen Lynne and thus began a new chapter for Dennis as he would become a proud father of two more children Dennis and Whitney.
While they were living in Terre Haute, In. He completed his B.S. and M.S. in economic geography which led him to pursue a PHD at the University of Florida. After which he taught there until 1977 when he relocated to his final home in Macomb, IL. There he joined the RPTA department and taught park planning and tourism. During his life in Macomb he continued to be fulfilled by his love of nature only now being able to not just explore his backyard but now all of the US.
His favorite activity as a child was staying up all night listening to radio stations around the world and this hobby transformed into a lifelong pursuit of experiencing as many cultures first hand as he could through his many travels across the world. Korea was a favorite and special place for Dennis with many visits there eventually even designing a National Park for the Country.
In addition he taught at the University of London and gave presentations in China. When he was not traveling his days were spent with his hands in the earth creating beauty through his gardens, his evenings were spent twirling his wife around the dance floor and his late nights were spent with his love of Latin music playing his Conga Drums until the sun rose before he slept. He is survived by his wife Lynne, 3 children and 13 grandchildren.
