Amy Trask Interview

I got the chance to speak with former Oakland Raiders CEO and current CBS NFL Analyst Amy Trask. After spending nearly 30 years with the Raiders she transitioned to a broadcasting role on CBS in 2013. She came on to promote her new book, You Negotiate Like a Girl: Reflections on a Career in the National Football League

Amy and I discussed her takeaways from writing the book, the respect she received from former Raiders owner Al Davis, and her transition to an on-air career. We also discuss our mutual love of the sports entertainment podcast Pardon my Take.

Kelly Sears Reflects on His Coaching Career

As was announced yesterday, Macomb High School Head Football Coach Kelly Sears has resigned after a 21 year tenure with the Bombers. He will continue to coach the MHS Girls Basketball Freshman Team, serve as an assistant on the softball team, and teach shop at the school.

He finishes his time in Macomb with a 121-90 record that included 12 postseason appearances. Most recently, Macomb advanced to the State Quarterfinals in 2012.

Here's my extended conversation with Kelly about his career, what he'll miss most, the impact he's had on his players, and the current landscape of high school football in the region.

Hy-Vee Athlete of the Week: Sophie Whitford (Macomb Girls Basketball)

This week's Hy-Vee Athlete of the Week is Macomb Bombers Girls Basketball Junior Sophie Whitford. In Macomb's 61-50 win over West Central last Saturday she scored 13 points, while hitting 3 shots from downtown. Whitford is Macomb's second leading scorer and is one of the key members of its 7-man junior class.

I got a chance to speak with Sophie about her role on the team, the new 1-3-1 defense, and hwo the young team has improved throughout the season. Listen to the conversation below.

After the tournament and a win on Tuesday vs Monmouth United, Bushnell-Prairie City is now 10-3 halfway through the regular season.

Jason got off to a slow start in game one, but in games two and three he had 19 and 22 points respectively. The performance was especially meaningful given that Jason dedicated the tournament to his uncle, who had recently passed away.
