Congratulations to Macomb freshman girls cross country runner Maya Stovall, who finished in 9th place at the IHSA Class A State Meet at Detweiler Park in Peoria on Saturday. Stovall's time of 17:53.6, broke the school record by two seconds. Her "Top 10" finish also earns her All-State Honors, which is a first for Macomb High.
Though off this past weekend, the Western Illinois men's soccer team earned a birth in the Summit League Tournament. The Leathernecks earned the #4 seed and will face top-seed Denver, who will host the tournament, with the semifinal taking place this Thursday at 8pm. The other semifinal takes place early on Thursday, between 2nd seed Omaha & #3 seed Oral Roberts. The men's Summit League Champion will be crown on Saturday, November 14th.

Western Illinois football junior place-kicker Nathan Knuffman, was recognized by the Fred Mitchell Award for Excellence in October. Knuffman was one of 32 kickers in the nation, representing all levels of college football. In early October he was named Missouri Valley Football Conference 'Special Teams Player of the Week' and one of six nationally by the College Sporting News as a National All-Star.
Knuffman's teammate, sophomore defensive back Aaron Diggs, joined a list of 32 nationally selected to the College Football Performance Awards Watch List. All Division I FCS players are eligible for awards at their respective positions. The award winners will be announced on January 13, 2016. Diggs joins teammate Trenton Norvell (Offensive Player of the Year Midseason Watch List) being honored by the CFPA.
Western Illinois women's soccer players, senior forward Skyler Jessop & freshman midfielder Kayla Kirkwood earn Summit League honors on Wednesday. Jessop was named Second Team All-Summit League, while Kirwood was named to the All-Freshmen team. It's the first confrence awards for both Jessop & Kirkwood.
Leatherneck men's junior golfer Andrew Blackburn was named Summit League "Male Golfer of the Month of October" yesterday. Blackburn finished tied for 8th place at the Bill Ross Intercollegiate in Kansas City last month, and was 6th individually at the APSU Intercollegiate also last month.
Western Illinois men's soccer coach Dr. Eric Johnson announced that the team will be hosting its 2015 Leatherneck Soccer Winter Clinic on Sunday, December 13. The clinic, which will take place from 12:30 to 3:30 p.m., is open to high school students in grades 10 through 12, as well as current junior college players.
Attendance to the clinic is limited to the first 50 players who register and pay the $25 registration fee. Participants will receive a Leatherneck Soccer t-shirt as part of the registration fee. IHSA Sectional Volleyball last night at Class 2A Pleasant Plains, Williamsville beat Illini West, 2-0 (25-13, 25-13). At Class A Lewistown, Hartsburg-Emden over Southeastern, 2-0 (25-22, 25-23). In Class 3A high school boys soccer, Quincy High won the Normal Supersectional, 3-1 over Tinley Park & will meet Bartlett at 7pm this Friday in the Final Four in Hoffman Estates.

Both the men's and women's Western Illinois cross country squards earned seventh place in The Summit League Championships at the Edgebrook Golf Course in Brookings. The women's team finished with a total of 259 points in the 6k while the men's squad scored 191 points in the 8k. South Dakota took the women's conference title with 38 points while IUPUI's 35 points earned them the men's crown.
