Tuesday's Area High School Volleyball Scores; Results From the MHS Cross Country Invite

Area high school volleyball, at the Lady Panther Classic in Camp Point, Mendon Unity beat Macomb, 2-0 (25-21, 25-21). Also at the "LPC" last night, Southeastern topped Liberty in straight sets (25-16, 25-20) and Camp Point Central over Rushville/Industry, 2-0 ((25-19, 25-17). Elsewhere, the West Prairie volleyball team beat Beardstown, 2-0 (25-12, 25-16). Lady Cyclones volleyball would like to remind you they'll host a pie auction during this Thursday's home match with Bushnell-Prairie City. The acution will raise funds for the CARE Center in Colchester, a food pantry benefitting all of McDonough County. 
 
The Macomb co-ed cross country team hosted the MHS Invite at Spring Lake Park on Tuesday. Mercer County won both the boys and girls team events, while the Macomb boys were 2nd & the MHS girls finished 3rd. Individually, Noah Pyles & Zach Zahnle were 6th and 7th for the Bomber boys... while Maya Stovall was runner-up for the Lady Bombers and teammate Maggie Swanson finished 10th. The Macomb High girls tennis teams home match with Quincy High was postponed due to rain and a make-up date is TBA.

Macomb Girls Golf Wins West Central Conference Meet; Lady Panther Volleyball Classic Underway in Camp Point

High school girls golf, Macomb won the West Central Conference Meet in Monmouth on Monday. The Lady Bombers carded a team-best 404 in the win, led by senior Allison Torrence who's 83 earned meet medalist honors. In high school boys soccer, Quincy Notre Dame over Macomb, 11-1. 
 
Area high school volleyball from Monday, at the Lady Panther Classic in Camp Point, Western High topped Macomb 2-1 (26-24, 22-25, 15-13). Courtney Thorman had 30 digs & Mia Lambert 21 assists in the loss for the Lady Bombers. Payson also beat Macomb at the "LPC" last night in straight sets (25-11, 25-15). More volleyball in Camp Point from last night, Southeastern scored 2-0 victories over both Rushville-Industry (25-17, 25-8) & host Camp Point Central, and Liberty also beat Rushville-Industry in straight sets (25-17, 25-15). Other high school volleyball, Illini West over West Hancock, 2-0 (25-17, 25-18). Jenna Bryan tallied 12 kills for the Lady Chargers in the win.

Leatherneck Men's Golf 7th After First Day of Derek Dolenc Invite

The W.Illinois men's golf team is tied for seventh, after the first day & 36 holes of the Derek Dolenc Invitational hosted by SIU-Edwardsville in Madison, Illinois. The Leathernecks carded a two-round 570, lead by freshman Adam Falk, who currently sits in 9th place individually. The host SIUE Cougars lead the 18-team event, which wraps up today with the final 18 holes.

Leatherneck Men's Soccer Falls to #12 Denver on Saturday

The Western Illinois men's soccer team fell to 12th ranked Denver on Saturday, 2-0. It was the Summit League Conference opener for both teams. Leatherneck men's soccer will be off until Saturday at 7pm, when they visit Oral Roberts in Tulsa. After winning their Summit League opener on Friday at South Dakota, the Western Illinois volleyball team lost at North Dakota State, 3-0. Leatherneck volleyball will have home matches this Friday & Sunday, versus IPFW & IUPUI respectively. 
 
The Western Illinois men's and women's swimming & diving opened their season Saturday, falling to Saint Louis at the Brophy Hall pool. For the women, freshman Marissa Purdum scored a win in the 50-free event, while on the men's side, Chris Neaveill, the reigning co-MVP of the Summit League, won the 100-fly event. Monday Night Elks League Meeting at Diggers College City Bowl

Monday Night Elks League at Digger's College City Bowl, will hold a meeting at 7 o'clock tonight (9/28) at the bowling alley, located 123 E.Adams in Macomb. Ray "Rock" Hanson Vintage Collection To Be Unveiled; Leatherneck Club Social in Quad Cities

To honor the legacy of Western Illinois University's legendary Athletic Director and Coach Ray "Rock" Hanson, the Ray "Rock" Hanson Vintage Collection will be unveiled at the University Bookstore at 1:30pm Monday, Sept. 28 to kick off WIU's Homecoming week. The collection features vintage Western logos that were in place during Hanson's tenure from 1926 through 1964.
 
The Western Illinois Athletic Department's Leatherneck Club will host a social for on Tuesday, October 13th, from 6-8pm at Modern Woodman Park Sports Lounge. The social will feature appetizers and a cash bar. Interim director of athletics Matt Tanney and several WIU head coaches will give updates, including: JD Gravina (women's basketball), Mike Stevenson (track and field), and Ryan Brownlee (baseball). Macomb High Boys Golf Out-Duals Canton; Macomb & Rushville-Industry Volleyball Win

The Macomb High boys golf team won a dual match over Canton 169-193 on Wednesday, at Wee-Ma-Tuk Golf Course near Canton. Bombers senior Joe Burke carded an individual best 40, for meet medalist honors. Macomb's match record improves to 11-5. 
 
High School Volleyball on Wednesday, Macomb beat Camp Point Central, 2-0 (25-21, 25-21) behind Courtney Thorman's 17 digs & Mia Lamberts 13 assists. Rushville/Industry over Bushnell/Prairie City, 2-1 (25-22, 23-25, 25-20). Tiffany Slater tallied 19 service points & 17 assists in the loss for the Lady Spartans.

Macomb High Boys Golf Wins Dual Event; Area High School Volleyball Scores

The Macomb High boys golf team scored a 162-170 home dual match with Galesburg on Tuesday. Bombers senior Joe Burke was meet medalist, carding a 36 on the par-35 front nine of the Macomb Country Club. 
 
High school volleyball from Tuesday, Illini West beat Macomb in two sets (26-16, 25-23). Mia Lambert had eight service points, two aces & 12 assists in the loss for the Lady Bombers, while Jenna Bryan tallied nine kills in the win for the Lady Chargers. A-Town won at Bushnell-Prairie City in straight sets (25-22, 25-20). Logan Brown recored 16 digs & nine service points in the setback for BPC. Hartsburg-Emden topped the West Prairie volleyball team 2-1 (25-19, 17-25, 26-24), despite 19 kills by the Lady Cyclones Peyton Bowman. Lewistwon beat Rushvile/Industry, 2-1 (23-25, 25-22, 25-13). Hanna Etter had 10 service points & 10 assists in the loss for the Lady Rockets.

Western Illinois Men's & Women's Golf Conclude Tournaments on Tuesday

The Western Illinois men's golf team concluded play at the Murray State Invitational yesterday in Murray, Ky. The host "Racers" won the event with a two-day/three-round total of 853. The Leathernecks finished in sixth out of the eight team event. Western freshman Adam Falk finished tied for 10th individually. 
 
The Western Illinois women's golf team concluded play at the Ball State Cardinal Classic on Tuesday in Yorktown, In. Eastern Kentucky won the event with a two-day/three round tally of 867. The Leathernecks finished in 11th out of the 16-team field. Western senior Allison Farrell & teammate Sophomore Allie Leingang tied for 38th individually.

Leatherneck Men's Soccer Downs Loras College; WIU Men's & Women's Golf Updates

The Western Illinois men's soccer team scored a 5-2 home win over non-conference Loras College on Monday. Jacob Bevan scored twice for the Leathernecks, who also got goals from Drew Whalen, Armel Kouassi & Amedeo Carbo. WIU men's soccer has won two-straight & will open up Summit League play on Saturday at 1pm when they host Denver from John McKenzie Alumni Field. 
 
The Western Illinois women's golf team concluded day one & the first two rounds of the Ball State Invitational in Yorktown, Ind. yesterday. The Leathernecks sit in 10th place out of the 16 team field with Eastern Kentucky leading the event. Senior Allison Farrell is currently tops individually for Western in 20th place. The third and final round tees off this morning. The WIU men's golf team is through day one & two rounds of the Murray State Invite in Murray, Kentucky. The host Racers lead the eight-team field with the Leathernecks in sixth place. Freshman Adam Falk is tops individually for Western, currently tied for 22nd.

Illini West Boys Golf Wins Quad Meet; Macomb, Rushville/Industry & Southeastern Volleyball Teams Win Monday

High school boys golf from Monday, Illini West won a quadrangular meet at Arrowhead Golf Course in Camp Point. The Chargers team score 178 bested host Central (190), Southeastern (229) & Western High (241). 
 
Around high school volleyball Monday night, Macomb scored a 2-1 road victory over West Hancock in Hamilton (25-21, 21-25, 25-10) behind Chloe Farr's seven kills & Julianna Kessler's eight service points and five aces. Rushville/Industry volleyball topped Peoria Heights in two sets (25-20, 25-16) behind Brianna Flores' nine service poins & Madelin Ward's seven kills. Southeastern won 2-0 over Mendon Unity last night, (25-20, 27-25)... the Lady Suns improve to 16-0!

Western Weekend Round-Up; Leatherneck Fall Athletics Recap

The Western Illinois women's soccer team fell at Missouri State Sunday, 2-0. Leatherneck women's soccer will be off this weekend in preparation for Summit League play, when they host IPFW at 3pm on Friday, October 2nd. The WIU men's soccer team scored a 4-1 win a UMKC on Saturday. The Leathernecks got goals from Drew Whalen, Nathan Bergstrom, Alejandro Pacheco and Armel Kouassi in the win. Western men's soccer will host Loras College tonight at John McKenzie Alumni Field at 5pm. 
 
The Western Illinois football team lost at top-ranked FCS Coastal Carolina on Saturday 34-27. Trenton Norvell tossed for 370 yards and two touchdowns in the setback. Lance Lenior made 10 receptions for 116 yards and a score and Nikko Watson rushed for 156 yards and two touchdowns in the loss. Aaron Diggs led the Western defense with 10 tackles. Leatherneck football is off this weekend before starting Missouri Valley Football Conference play on Saturday, October 3rd at home against Southern Illinois at 3pm. Join us for the Bob Nielson Show tonight from 6-6:30 at Buffalo Wild Wings on E.Jackson in Macomb. The public is invited to attend, and Coach Nielson & Macomb High head coach Kelly Sears will speak today at the Downtown Athletic Club lunch at the Sports Corner, today at noon. 
 
The Western Illinois volleyball team fell twice on Saturday at the Indiana State Tournament in Terre Haute, losing to both Chicago State and Valparaiso. Leatherneck volleyball begins Summit League play this weekend, when they visit South Dakota on Friday & meet North Dakota State in Fargo on Saturday.

"CONNECKS" or Leatherneck Athletics Connecting with our Community... will have an event coming up on Saturday, September 26th at Vince Grady Field from 10am-1pm. This event combines Leatherneck Athletic programs to instruct & interact with our special education & special needs community members, who would enjoy an enjoyable experience with a Division-1 athlete. 
 
The special needs individuals, will have a full day of fun & games, lunch (pizza, pop & water) will be provided for no charge... a Leatherneck goodie bag, and a chance to take in the WIU men's soccer game following the event (on 9/26), and comeback on Fri. October 2nd for the WIU women's soccer match w/IPFW.

Macomb Boys Golf Drops Dual Meet at Burlington; Area High School Volleyball Scores

The Macomb high boys golf team lost a dual match to Burlington (Iowa) on Thursday, 153-160 at Spirit Hollow Golf Course in Burlington. Joe Burke carded a 38 to lead the Bombers & teammate Max Dakin shot a 39 in the loss. 
 
High school volleyball last night, Bushnell-Prairie City beat Farmington in three sets (17-25, 25-17, 25-23), behind Kayley Peck's 18 service points, six kills and five blocks. Liberty topped Illini West, 2-1 (9-25, 25-23, 25-23). Jenna Bryan had 19 kills in the loss for the Lady Chargers. Southeastern volleyball over Western High, 2-0 (25-8, 25-16) behind Kolby McClelland's 10 kills.

Leatherneck Volleyball Scores Thrilling Five Set Win at Drake

The Western Illinois volleyball team scored a thrilling five-set victory over Drake in Des Moines last night. Peyton Crosser led the attack with 13 kills & 23 digs, while teammate Lexi Kolschefski added 12 kills in the win.
 
Leatherneck volleyball, winners of their last two matches, will take part in their final regular season tournament this weekend, when they travel to Terre Haute for the Indiana State Tournament. The Leathernecks will play host Indiana State this Friday at 6pm and have matches Saturday with Valparaiso (9am) & Chicago State (3:30pm).

Macomb & Bushnell-Prairie City Volleyball Teams Record Tuesday Wins

Area high school volleyball Tuesday night, Macomb stayed hot with a victory in two sets (25-20, 25-12) over visiting Monmouth-Roseville. Jenssen Protsman's 14 kills & Mia Lambert's 20 assists led the Lady Bombers. Bushnell-Prairie City beat Beardstown last night 2-0 (25-21, 25-23). Stephanie Beaird's 12 service points & Kayley Peck's nine kills led the Lady Spartans. Elsewhere, West Hancock topped Biggsville-West Central, 2-1 (25-13, 24-26, 27-25). 
 
High School boys golf, Biggsville-West Central scored a 179-206 win over Southeastern at Twin Oaks Country Club in Blandinsville. Other boys golf at Westview in Quincy, QND won a quadrangular with a team-best 158. Quincy High finished second (164), Rushville-Industry was third (193) and Camp Point Central fourth (202).

WIU Men's Golf Finished 3rd at D.A. Weibring Intercollegiate; Leatherneck Volleyball Visits Drake Tonight

The Western Illinois men's golf team finished third out of the 18-team D.A. Weibring Intercollegiate, hosted by Illinois State University in Normal. Host ISU won the event, while Central Arkansas was second. Freshman Jackson Wetherbee was tops individually for the Leathernecks carding a three-round 220 & finishing in 10th place. Teammate Andrew Blackburn also finished in the top 20 in 17th place. 
 
The Western Illinois volleyball team has a mid-week match-up tonight when they visit Drake in Des Moines, Iowa. First serve inside Knapp Fieldhouse tonight is set for 6 o'clock. Last time out, the Leathernecks picked-up their first win of the season over Jackson State at the Evansville Volleyball Tournament last Saturday.

High School volleyball last night, Macomb scored a home win over West Hancock in two sets (25-13, 25-13). Mia Lambert & Julianna Kessler combined for five aces in the win for the Lady Bombers. Mendon Unity topped the West Prairie volleyball team in three sets (25-12, 21-25, 25-23), despite 14 kills by the Lady Cyclones Peyton Bowman. Rushville-Industry beat Farmington 2-0 (25-7, 25-20). Hanna Etter tallied 15 service points, 15 assists and nine digs for the Lady Rockets. Elsewhere, Southeastern topped Liberty 2-0 behind 12 kills, six digs & three blocks from Kolby McClelland and Quincy Notre Dame over Illini West in two sets (25-15, 25-17). 
 
The Macomb high boys varsity golf team won a triangular meet at Gibson Woods Golf Course in Monmouth on Monday. The Bombers team score of 155, bested Monmouth-Roseville's 156 & Biggsville-West Central's 174. Mon-Ro's Brayden Reese's 35 earned meet medalist honors, while Joe Burke & Anthony Neve each carded 38's to lead Macomb.

Western Illinois Men's Golf at D.A. Weibring in Normal; Leatherneck Men's & Women's Soccer Fall on Sunday

The Western Illinois men's golf team currently sits in third place after day one of the 18-team D.A. Weibring Intercollegiate, hosted by Illinois State University in Normal. The Leathernecks trail the host Redbirds and Central Arkansas heading into day two & the third and final round today. Western freshman Jackson Weatherbee is currently tied for sixth individually. 
 
The Western Illinois men's soccer team wrapped up play at the Radisson Invitational in Kalamazoo, Michigan on Sunday. The Leathernecks fell to Western Michigan yesterday 1-0. Western forwards Austin Gochneaur and Drew Whalen were named to the all-tournament team. The Western Illinois women's soccer team continued it's non-conference road trip Sunday, falling at SIU-Edwardsville, 1-0. 
 
Recapping Western Illinois Athletics on Saturday... the Leatherneck football team lost at Illinois, 44-0. The Leatherneck volleyball team won their first match this season, beating Jackson State, 3-1 at the Evansville Tournament. Jordan Jackson & Peyton Crosser combined for 30 kills in the win... Jackson & teammate Kaili Simmons were named to the all-tournament team. And much like Friday at the Quincy Invitational, all four Western Illinois women's tennis players were victorious on Saturday in the Gem City. Courtney Lubbers, Arianna Demos, Nicole Jones & Maria Bessmertnaya swept their respective singles matches.

Macomb Coed Cross Country; Lady Bomber Volleyball Saturday Recap

The Macomb co-ed cross country team took part at the "First to Finish" Invite in Peoria Saturday... the Macomb boys were 13th overall, while the Lady Bombers were 16th as a team. Maya Stovall was tops for Macomb finishing 10th for the girls. Zach Zahnle was Macomb's 38th place mark was tops for the Macomb boys. 

 
At the ROWVA volleyball tournament this past weekend, Macomb finished in third place defeating Bushnell-Prairie City in two sets on Saturday, behind Jenssen Protsman's 11 kills & Mia Lambert's 21 assists.

Leatherneck Club & Western Illinois Athletics to Host Socials in Champaign

Western Illinois Athletics and the Leatherneck Club will host a free social tonight at the Hawthorne Suites in Champaign from 6-8pm. The event will include free appetizers and a cash bar. Leatherneck head football coach Bob Nielson and Interim Director of Athletics Matt Tanney will both address attendees. Tickets are still available for the Western Illinois University Alumni Association pregame social prior to tomorrow's Leatherneck football's road game against Illinois in Champaign. Southeastern golf won a triangular match in Augusta yesterday, with a team score of 189, beating Mendon Unity and the Camp Point Central JV.

Macomb Boys Golf Records Home Win Over Mercer County; Macomb Cross Country Running Strong at "Prime Beef" Event

The Macomb high school boys golf team won varsity and junior varsity matches over visiting Mercer County at the Macomb Country Club on Wednesday. The varsity Bombers defeated the Golden Eagles, 159-163 to improve to 7-3 this season. Joe Burke and Max Dakin led Macomb with 3-over/38's to earn co-meet medalist honors. 
 
In high school cross country, the "Prime Beef Run" in Monmouth was held yesterday. Macomb won the boys event, while Farmington took the girls race with Macomb finishing second. Zach Zahnle & Noah Pyles finished first & second individually for the Macomb boys, while Maya Stovall and Maggie Swanson were also first & second, respectively, for the Lady Bombers.
 
In high school boys soccer, Jacksonville shut-out Macomb, 7-0.

Covington Named Preseason All-Summit League; Tickets Available For Leatherneck Football Pregame Social at Illinois

Western Illinois junior guard Garret Covington was named to Athlon Sports' Preseason All-Summit League team. Covington led the Leathernecks with nearly 16 points per game last season, while starting all 28 games. Western Illinois men's basketball will host Knox College for an exhibition on November 7th, before tipping off the regular season at Wisconsin on November 13th. 
 
Tickets are still available for the Western Illinois University Alumni Association pregame social this Saturday (Sept. 12) prior to the Fighting Leatherneck football team's contest against Illinois in Champaign. The pregame social begins at 8am in Lot 31 near Memorial Stadium and runs until kickoff inside Memorial Stadium which is scheduled for 11am. Area High School Volleyball - Tuesday Scores (9/8/15)

High School volleyball last night, Macomb scored a road win over Midwest Central, winning in two sets (25-21, 25-22). Jontae McCleery led the Lady Spartans with 16 service points. West Prairie topped Farmington last night 2-0 (25-9, 25-15) behind Peyton Bowman's 10 kills & Cora Vyhanek's 19 assists. Rushville-Industry volleyball over Havana in two sets (25-19, 25-15). Briana Flores & Rachel Sarlin had eight service points each for the Lady Rockets in the win. Elsewhere, Monmouth-Roseville scored a 2-1 win over Camp Point Central.

Leatherneck Women's Soccer & Volleyball Drop Mid-Week Road Contests

The Western Illinois women's soccer team lost a mid-week contest to Northern Iowa, falling in Cedar Falls 3-0 last night. The Leathernecks fall to 1-4-0 on the season, while the Panthers improved to 3-2-2. Western Illinois women's soccer will resume it's five game road trip on Friday when they face Austin Peay in Clarksville, Tennessee at 5pm. 
 
The Leatherneck volleyball team lost in three sets at Saint Louis on Tuesday (25-20, 25-17, 25-17). Coach Kelly Richardson's young Western Illinois squad returns to action this weekend at the Indiana State Tournament in Evansville. The Leathernecks will face Northern Kentucky Friday at 4pm, host Evansville Saturday at 10am and conclude the tournament Saturday afternoon versus Jackson State at 3:30pm.

Western Illinois Football's Lance Lenoir Jr. - "Special Teams Player of the Week"

Western Illinois football junior wide receiver and return specialist Lance Lenoir Jr. was named the Missouri Valley Football Conference "Special Teams Player of the Week," and the "STATS FCS-Special Teams Player of the Week." STATS-FCS also tabbed the Fighting Leathernecks as the "Team of the Week."  

 

In last Thursday's, 33-5 home win over Eastern Illinois, Lenoir compiled a career-high 280 all-purpose yards, 156 of those yards coming on kick-off returns and two of his returns lead to Leatherneck touchdowns. Western Illinois football travels to Champaign this Saturday, to face Big Ten Confernece member Illinois at 11am. Catch that game on The Big Ten Network and locally on 102.7FM.

Leathernecks Athletics Weekend Recap

The Western Illinois women's golf team wrapped up the Redbird Invite at Illinois State in Normal on Monday, carding a team score 967. Bowling Green's team score of 905 won the event. Leatherneck sophomore Allie Leingang tied for 37th with a three-round 236.  Looking back Sunday, the Leatherneck men's soccer team played Green Bay on the road, to a 1-all draw, while the Leatherneck women's soccer fell at home to Western Michigan, 2-0. 
 
Western Illinois women's soccer visits Northern Iowa in Cedar Falls at 7 o'clock tonight and Leatherneck Volleyball also in action at 7pm when they visit Saint Louis.

Leatherneck Football Rolls Eastern Illinois

The Western Illinois football team hammered visiting Eastern Illinois last night, 33-5. Leatherneck quarterback Trenton Norvell tossed a touchdown pass to Lance Lenoir Jr., while Devon Moore rushed for two scores and Macomb native Brett Taylor returned an interception 42 yards for a "pick six!" Leatherneck football (1-0) will travel to Champaign Saturday, September 12th for an 11am kick-off with Big Ten Confernece member Illinois.

Area High School Volleyball - Thursday Scores

High school volleyball from Thursday, Monmouth (United) scored a two sets to none home win over Macomb (25-14/25-21), Mia Lambert had 16 set assists and Jenssen Protsman added 11 digs in the loss for the Lady Bombers. Bushnell-Prairie City beat Biggsville (West Central) in three sets (20-25/25-15/25-19) behind Logan Brown's 16 points and three aces. At the Lady Suns Volleyball Classic in Augusta, Payson-Seymore topped Illini West in two sets (25-12/25-17) and tourney host Southeastern over Beardstown 2-0 (25-14/25-17) behind Emma Derry's 21 set assists and Kolby McClelland's 10 kills.

Lady Suns Volleyball Classic Resumes; West Hancock Wins Golf Triangular

At the Lady Suns Volleyball Classic in Augusta last night, host Southeastern beat Rushville-Industry two games to nothing (25-16/25-14) behind Kolby McClelland's 10 kills & 5 blocks... Illini West topped Camp Point Central in two sets (26-24/25-15) getting eight kills from Jenna Bryan in the win... and Beardstown over South Fulton two games to nil (27-25/25-16). 
 
Around high school coed golf on Tuesday, West Hancock won a triangular meet at Deer Run in Hamilton. The Titans team score of 192 bested Southeastern's 231 and Brown County's 247.

Southeastern High School volleyball is hosting the Lady Suns Classic in Augusta this week. Monday night, Rushville/Industry beat Beardstown two sets to one (25-11/25-27/25-18). Brianna Flores had 18 service points and Madeline Ward added nine kills in the win for the Lady Rockets. Also in Augusta last night, Illini West over West Hancock in two sets (25-14/25-21). Jenna Bryan had 10 points and 5 kills for the Lady Chargers... and host Southeastern topped South Fulton in two sets (25-6/25-6) behind Emma Derry's 15 assists and five aces.
