Also at the "LPC" last night, Southeastern topped Liberty in straight sets (25-16, 25-20) and Camp Point Central over Rushville/Industry, 2-0 ((25-19, 25-17). Elsewhere, the West Prairie volleyball team beat Beardstown, 2-0 (25-12, 25-16). Lady Cyclones volleyball would like to remind you they'll host a pie auction during this Thursday's home match with Bushnell-Prairie City. The acution will raise funds for the CARE Center in Colchester, a food pantry benefitting all of McDonough County.
The Macomb co-ed cross country team hosted the MHS Invite at Spring Lake Park on Tuesday. Mercer County won both the boys and girls team events, while the Macomb boys were 2nd & the MHS girls finished 3rd. Individually, Noah Pyles & Zach Zahnle were 6th and 7th for the Bomber boys... while Maya Stovall was runner-up for the Lady Bombers and teammate Maggie Swanson finished 10th. The Macomb High girls tennis teams home match with Quincy High was postponed due to rain and a make-up date is TBA.
High school girls golf, Macomb won the West Central Conference Meet in Monmouth on Monday. The Lady Bombers carded a team-best 404 in the win, led by senior Allison Torrence who's 83 earned meet medalist honors. In high school boys soccer, Quincy Notre Dame over Macomb, 11-1.

The W.Illinois men's golf team is tied for seventh, after the first day & 36 holes of the Derek Dolenc Invitational hosted by SIU-Edwardsville in Madison, Illinois. The Leathernecks carded a two-round 570, lead by freshman Adam Falk, who currently sits in 9th place individually. The host SIUE Cougars lead the 18-team event, which wraps up today with the final 18 holes.
The Western Illinois men's soccer team fell to 12th ranked Denver on Saturday, 2-0. It was the Summit League Conference opener for both teams. Leatherneck men's soccer will be off until Saturday at 7pm, when they visit Oral Roberts in Tulsa. After winning their Summit League opener on Friday at South Dakota, the Western Illinois volleyball team lost at North Dakota State, 3-0. Leatherneck volleyball will have home matches this Friday & Sunday, versus IPFW & IUPUI respectively.
The Western Illinois men's and women's swimming & diving opened their season Saturday, falling to Saint Louis at the Brophy Hall pool. For the women, freshman Marissa Purdum scored a win in the 50-free event, while on the men's side, Chris Neaveill, the reigning co-MVP of the Summit League, won the 100-fly event. To honor the legacy of Western Illinois University's legendary Athletic Director and Coach Ray "Rock" Hanson, the Ray "Rock" Hanson Vintage Collection will be unveiled at the University Bookstore at 1:30pm Monday, Sept. 28 to kick off WIU's Homecoming week. The collection features vintage Western logos that were in place during Hanson's tenure from 1926 through 1964.

The Western Illinois women's soccer team fell at Missouri State Sunday, 2-0. Leatherneck women's soccer will be off this weekend in preparation for Summit League play, when they host IPFW at 3pm on Friday, October 2nd. The WIU men's soccer team scored a 4-1 win a UMKC on Saturday. The Leathernecks got goals from Drew Whalen, Nathan Bergstrom, Alejandro Pacheco and Armel Kouassi in the win. The Western Illinois football team lost at top-ranked FCS Coastal Carolina on Saturday 34-27. Trenton Norvell tossed for 370 yards and two touchdowns in the setback. Lance Lenior made 10 receptions for 116 yards and a score and Nikko Watson rushed for 156 yards and two touchdowns in the loss. Aaron Diggs led the Western defense with 10 tackles. The Western Illinois volleyball team scored a thrilling five-set victory over Drake in Des Moines last night. Peyton Crosser led the attack with 13 kills & 23 digs, while teammate Lexi Kolschefski added 12 kills in the win.

Recapping Western Illinois Athletics on Saturday... the Leatherneck football team lost at Illinois, 44-0. The Leatherneck volleyball team won their first match this season, beating Jackson State, 3-1 at the Evansville Tournament. Jordan Jackson & Peyton Crosser combined for 30 kills in the win... Jackson & teammate Kaili Simmons were named to the all-tournament team. And much like Friday at the Quincy Invitational, all four Western Illinois women's tennis players were victorious on Saturday in the Gem City. Courtney Lubbers, Arianna Demos, Nicole Jones & Maria Bessmertnaya swept their respective singles matches.

The Macomb High boys golf team lost a close match at Galesburg yesterday. The Silver Streaks to the varsity contest 156-159 and the junior varsity match, 186-198. Southeastern golf won a triangular match in Augusta yesterday, with a team score of 189, beating Mendon Unity and the Camp Point Central JV.
The Macomb high school boys golf team won varsity and junior varsity matches over visiting Mercer County at the Macomb Country Club on Wednesday. The varsity Bombers defeated the Golden Eagles, 159-163 to improve to 7-3 this season. Joe Burke and Max Dakin led Macomb with 3-over/38's to earn co-meet medalist honors.
In high school cross country, the "Prime Beef Run" in Monmouth was held yesterday. Macomb won the boys event, while Farmington took the girls race with Macomb finishing second. Zach Zahnle & Noah Pyles finished first & second individually for the Macomb boys, while Maya Stovall and Maggie Swanson were also first & second, respectively, for the Lady Bombers.

Western Illinois junior guard Garret Covington was named to Athlon Sports' Preseason All-Summit League team. Covington led the Leathernecks with nearly 16 points per game last season, while starting all 28 games. Western Illinois men's basketball will host Knox College for an exhibition on November 7th, before tipping off the regular season at Wisconsin on November 13th.

The Leatherneck volleyball team lost in three sets at Saint Louis on Tuesday (25-20, 25-17, 25-17). Coach Kelly Richardson's young Western Illinois squad returns to action this weekend at the Indiana State Tournament in Evansville. The Leathernecks will face Northern Kentucky Friday at 4pm, host Evansville Saturday at 10am and conclude the tournament Saturday afternoon versus Jackson State at 3:30pm.

Western Illinois football junior wide receiver and return specialist Lance Lenoir Jr. was named the Missouri Valley Football Conference "Special Teams Player of the Week," and the "STATS FCS-Special Teams Player of the Week." STATS-FCS also tabbed the Fighting Leathernecks as the "Team of the Week."
In last Thursday's, 33-5 home win over Eastern Illinois, Lenoir compiled a career-high 280 all-purpose yards, 156 of those yards coming on kick-off returns and two of his returns lead to Leatherneck touchdowns. Western Illinois football travels to Champaign this Saturday, to face Big Ten Confernece member Illinois at 11am. Catch that game on The Big Ten Network and locally on 102.7FM.

The Western Illinois football team hammered visiting Eastern Illinois last night, 33-5. Leatherneck quarterback Trenton Norvell tossed a touchdown pass to Lance Lenoir Jr., while Devon Moore rushed for two scores and Macomb native Brett Taylor returned an interception 42 yards for a "pick six!" Leatherneck football (1-0) will travel to Champaign Saturday, September 12th for an 11am kick-off with Big Ten Confernece member Illinois.
High school volleyball from Thursday, Monmouth (United) scored a two sets to none home win over Macomb (25-14/25-21), Mia Lambert had 16 set assists and Jenssen Protsman added 11 digs in the loss for the Lady Bombers. Bushnell-Prairie City beat Biggsville (West Central) in three sets (20-25/25-15/25-19) behind Logan Brown's 16 points and three aces. At the Lady Suns Volleyball Classic in Augusta, Payson-Seymore topped Illini West in two sets (25-12/25-17) and tourney host Southeastern over Beardstown 2-0 (25-14/25-17) behind Emma Derry's 21 set assists and Kolby McClelland's 10 kills.

At the Lady Suns Volleyball Classic in Augusta last night, host Southeastern beat Rushville-Industry two games to nothing (25-16/25-14) behind Kolby McClelland's 10 kills & 5 blocks... Illini West topped Camp Point Central in two sets (26-24/25-15) getting eight kills from Jenna Bryan in the win... and Beardstown over South Fulton two games to nil (27-25/25-16).
Around high school coed golf on Tuesday, West Hancock won a triangular meet at Deer Run in Hamilton. The Titans team score of 192 bested Southeastern's 231 and Brown County's 247.
