Leatherneck Women's & Men's Soccer Fall Sunday; Western Illinois Volleyball Recap

The Western Illinois women's soccer team lost 2-0 at home to Kansas City on Sunday. The Leathernecks drop to 1-2-0, and will next be in action Sunday (Sept. 6th) when they host Western Michigan from John McKenzie Alumni Field in Macomb, at 1pm. In men's college soccer yesterday, Bowling Green beat visiting Western Iillinois 4-1. Sophomore forward Conrad Hager scored the lone goal for the Leathernecks, who fall to 0-2-0 and will have their home opener this Friday (Sept. 4th) against Valparaiso at 5pm. 
 
The Western Illinois volleyball team hosted the Hampton Inn - Leatherneck Invite at Western Hall this past weekend. Western, who lost to Akron on Friday, also fell twice on Saturday to Drake and Depaul. Senior Peyton Crosser had a combined 27 kills on Saturday for the Leathernecks, who will take part at the Kansas Invitational this Friday and Saturday.

Macomb Boys Golf finishes 6th at Monmouth Invite

The Macomb high boys golf team tied for 6th place with Quincy Notre Dame at the Monmouth Invitational on Saturday. The Bombers would win the tie-breaker with the Raiders. Overall Macomb shot a team score 331, with senior Joe Burke carding an individual team-best 80. 

 
At the Macomb high school Volleyball Classic that was held at WIU's Brophy Hall on Saturday, the host Lady Bombers won matches over North Fulton (2-0) and Monmouth-Roseville (2-0), but lost to both Metamora (2-0) and Payson-Seymore (25-14/25-20). Bushnell-Prairie City volleyball also took part in the MHS Classic at Brophy, and lost their three matches to Illini West, Rock Island and Washington.

Leatherneck Women's Soccer Wins Double-OT Thriller, while WIU Men's Soccer and Volleyball Fall

It took 105 game minutes, but the Western Illinois women's soccer team beat in-state rival Eastern Illinois on Friday, 3-2 in double-overtime. Skyler Jessop netted the game-winner, while Meagan Wilson and Ashley Kuhlmann also tallied goals for the Leathernecks. Western women's soccer improves to 1-1 and will host Kansas City from John McKenzie Alumni Field on Sunday at 1pm. The Western Illinois men's soccer team lost it's regular season opener at former Summit League member Oakland on Friday night, 3-0. Leatherneck men's soccer (0-1) is back on the road Sunday, when they face Bowling Green at 1pm. 
 
The Western Illinois volleyball team is hosting the Hampton Inn-Leatherneck Invite at Western Hall this weekend. The Leathernecks, who lost 3-0 to Akron last night will look to rebound today against Drake at 11am and tonight versus DePaul at 7 o'clock. All matches from Western Hall are free admission.

The Macomb High boys golf team played a quadrangular meet at Gibson Woods in Monmouth on Friday. The Bombers team 157 beat both Quincy Notre Dame and won a tie-breaker with host Monmouth-Roseville, while falling to Bloomington Central Catholic's team 155. Macomb boys golf remains at Gibson Woods today at the Monmouth Invite. The Macomb high boys soccer team continues at the QND Tournament in Quincy today. Also, the Macomb volleyball team will host the MHS Classic at WIU's Brophy Hall all day today. Macomb & Bushnell-Prairie City two of the 12 teams in action at the tournament.

McDonough County 4H Shooting Sports Fundraiser

The 4H of McDonough County's "Shooting Sports Fundraiser" is taking place at Farm King on E.Jackson in Macomb, this Saturday, August 29th. 

Farm King will offer up their "NO TAX Weekend," so do your shopping inside, and from 10am-2pm, enjoy a delicious pulled pork sandwich, with an amazing Raspberry BBQ sauce, all the fixin's, chips & water for just $5!

All proceeds will aid the expense for the program supplies!

Busy Weekend for Western Illinois University Athletics

A busy weekend for Western Illinois University Athletics. Western Illinois volleyball will host the Hampton Inn - Leatherneck Invite from Western Hall. The Leathernecks will face Akron tonight at 7pm and have games Saturday against Drake (11am) & Depaul (7pm). Western women's soccer is home with Eastern Illinois today at 3pm from John McKenzie Alumni Field & will also host Kansas City on Sunday at 1pm. Leatherneck mens soccer visits Oakland in Rochester, Michigan tonight at 7pm & will travel to Bowling Green Sunday for a 1pm match.

Area High School Sports Heating Up!

Area high school football kicks-off tonight, and the Macomb Bombers being their 2015 season when they host Limestone from MHS Field. Game-time is set for 7:30 with the pregame show starting tonight on 100.1FM around 7:15. Bushnell-West Prairie hosts South Fulton tonight in Bushnell at 7pm. High School Cross Country from Thursday at the Macomb Invitational, Liberty won both the boys & girls team events. Maya Stovall-Sadler was tops for host Macomb, finishing 2nd individually for the girls.  High School Boys Golf, Quincy High won the triangular meet with a team score of 158, besting Macomb (170) & Pittsfield (198). Nick Elting's 37 was tops for the Bombers. High school volleyball from Thursday, Southeastern beat Pittsfield, 25-13/25-9 behind Colby McClelland's nine kills.

WIU Sports Update

A reminder, that the W.Illinois coed cross country and track & field teams will hold an informational meeting this afternoon (Thursday, August 27th) at 3pm in Morgan Hall - Room 109. The meeting is for any full-time WIU student, that interested in learning more about the program & requirements for participating on the team. Western Illinois football kicks off one week from tonight, on September 3rd. The Leathernecks welcome in-state rival Eastern Illinois to Hanson Field. Game time is set for 6pm, catch every Leatherneck football game this season on 102.7FM!

August 26th Update

The Macomb High boys golf team won a dual match at Sherrard on Tuesday, carding a team 163 to the Tigers 200. Bombers senior Joe Burke was meet medalist with an individual score of 37. The West Prairie volleyball team beat Brimfield/Elmwood in Sciota last night, 25-9/25-11. Peyton Bowman & Hannah Thompson combined for 11 kills for the Lady Cyclones. ROWVA topped Bushnell-Prairie City volleyball last night, 25-19/25-17. Stephanie Beaird had seven service points & Tiffany Slater had 9 assists in the loss for BPC. In other area high school volleyball, Illini West beat Camp Point Central in three sets and Payson-Seymore shut out Rushville-Industry, two sets to nil.

WIU Athletics, Adidas continue partnership

Interim athletic director Matt Tanney announced the Western Illinois Athletics Department and Adidas renewed their partnership for potentially the next 10 years. The contract makes Adidas the official apparel provider for Leatherneck Athletics. Western continues as a member of the Adidas college family for the next five years (through 2020-21), with an option of five one-year contract extensions. A partner with adidas since 2001,Tanney calls the partnership a sound financial decision.
